Bye-bye bye week.  Time to get back to work.  The Bulls football team has returned from their first non-storm related bye week of the season.  They’re 5-0 for just the fourth time in program history and ranked #18 in the AP Poll and #15 in the USA Today Amway Coaches’ Poll, respectively.

The Bulls come out of the bye week with some ups and downs in the rankings.

The overall push in the rankings is upward and onward after the Bulls posted another blowout win over ECU.  Even though the defense allowed a season high 31, the 61 points scored on offense seems more than enough to move the needle.

The USF Bulls have put another blowout win into the history books, but not without letting it be interesting in the first half.  Though ECU never led, they did get within a touchdown several times before the Bulls ran away with the game.

Welcome to your official unofficial gameday chat as the USF Bulls visit the ECU Pirates for a noon kickoff.  The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network, nationally.  Stay tuned here or @USFBlogDotCom for game updates.  As always, jeers and cheers are welcome here!

The Graze is back after the early season rush / hurricane season evacuation and recovery exercise.  There’s a lot going on.

Looking Back

The USF football team has climbed to a new season high in the two major polls.  After slow starts in all of their games thus far, they’ve managed to post dominant victories in each game.  Last season, it was the offense that carried the team.  This year, it is a huge turnaround on defense that is making the difference, who “now rank in the top 25 in nine statistics”, according to Bay News 9.

Poll Watch: Week 5 2017
USF Poll Watch Week 5 2017 All
Most teams have four games under their belt and game results, as well as statistics, are having a bit more meaning, now.  Overall, the Bulls are moving into more positive territory in Week 5, after posting a dominating blowout win over Temple.  Temple isn’t a football powerhouse, but USF continued their nation-leading streak of games with more than 30 points scored (21) and allowed zero points on defense.  The only points scored by Temple were off a sack of USF quarterback, Quinton Flowers, whose fumble was recovered and returned for a touchdown.  In this week’s rankings, all but one have positive trendlines.

Congratulations to TheBombasticBull, who has his second win of the season, predicting the outcome of the Temple vs. USF game within nine total points.  Coming in second place is whatever McIntyre2k7 is calling himself today, who varied by 12 total points.  Both of them each have two wins on the season, with TheBombasticBull having a season variance of just two total points.  McIntyre2k7 and his many aliases vary by eight total points.  Please post your predictinos for USF vs. ECU on this page to ensure they are found and counted.

The University of South Florida Bulls have earned the unfortunate reputation of being a slow starting team, but piling up big points before the game ends.  This pattern was repeated in their 43-7 beating of Temple, who was unable to score a single point offense or special teams.  The lone touchdown for the Owls came on a defensive play, when Alex Starzyk stripped the football from USF quarterback, Quinton Flowers’ throwing hand and returning the fumble for a touchdown.

Hurricane Irma is now history and the football season is moving forward.  Poll Watch was postponed and USF’s game against UConn was rescheduled as a result.  The rankings have been surprisingly negative towards the Bulls, even though they keep on winning.
