The overall push in the rankings is upward and onward after the Bulls posted another blowout win over ECU. Even though the defense allowed a season high 31, the 61 points scored on offense seems more than enough to move the needle.

The Graze is back after the early season rush / hurricane season evacuation and recovery exercise. There’s a lot going on.
Looking Back
The USF football team has climbed to a new season high in the two major polls. After slow starts in all of their games thus far, they’ve managed to post dominant victories in each game. Last season, it was the offense that carried the team. This year, it is a huge turnaround on defense that is making the difference, who “now rank in the top 25 in nine statistics”, according to Bay News 9.

Most teams have four games under their belt and game results, as well as statistics, are having a bit more meaning, now. Overall, the Bulls are moving into more positive territory in Week 5, after posting a dominating blowout win over Temple. Temple isn’t a football powerhouse, but USF continued their nation-leading streak of games with more than 30 points scored (21) and allowed zero points on defense. The only points scored by Temple were off a sack of USF quarterback, Quinton Flowers, whose fumble was recovered and returned for a touchdown. In this week’s rankings, all but one have positive trendlines.

The University of South Florida Bulls have earned the unfortunate reputation of being a slow starting team, but piling up big points before the game ends. This pattern was repeated in their 43-7 beating of Temple, who was unable to score a single point offense or special teams. The lone touchdown for the Owls came on a defensive play, when Alex Starzyk stripped the football from USF quarterback, Quinton Flowers’ throwing hand and returning the fumble for a touchdown.
