Bye-bye bye week. Time to get back to work. The Bulls football team has returned from their first non-storm related bye week of the season. They’re 5-0 for just the fourth time in program history and ranked #18 in the AP Poll and #15 in the USA Today Amway Coaches’ Poll, respectively.
Looking Back
The Bulls have been a record breaking machine over the past two seasons. After their 61-31 beating of ECU, USF senior quarterback, Quinton Flowers has broken another record. In the game, he surpassed former Florida Gator quarterback, Tim Tebow, to set the record for most rushing yards by a quarterback playing in the state of Florida. Tebow’s record was 2,947 rushing yards. Flowers currently has 2,989 for his career, which will grow significantly over the remaining games.
Well known to USF fans is the fact that Flowers was offered by other major programs at positions other than quarterback. Hero Sports has a feature on similar players who ended up going to non-playoff universities and having success after being offered by playoff programs. Flowers is featured prominently in the story.
Looking Forward
Former USF basketball guard, Jahmal Murray, will be back in the Sun Dome, once again. On March 4th, he returns as an SMU Mustang.
Other Stuff
One of the most frustrating things the media can do to diehard fans is to beat up the public on lack of attendance at home games. Rays fans know this all too well. For USF fans, the drumbeat is getting louder and the questions more pointed about where all the fans went. For some USF alumni, the question of support is linked more closely to tradition than anything else. For those who were Bulls before football, the connection to the program just isn’t there.
