Who:                   USF Bulls vs. San Jose State Spartans
What:                  Non-conference football game
When:                 Saturday, August 26, 2017
Where:                CEFCU Stadium
Why:                   2017 season opener

Saturday’s game marks the first matchup between these two teams, which isn’t a surprise considering the more than 2,800 miles between the schools.  San Jose State, who were picked fifth in the Mountain West Conference Media Summit, are coming off a 4-8 campaign in 2016.  They have not won more than six games in a season since leaving the Western Athletic Conference and joining the Mountain West after the 2013 season.

Back by semi-popular demand, its the Pick 'em and Predict 'em score predictions game.  As has been the case for the past several years, you'll be able to demonstrate your superiority over your USF Blog buds in predicting USF football scores.  Let's get things started right for Week One.  The names listed on the graphic are those we have left from last year.  If you're new and want to participate, please put your predictions in the comment section below and you'll be added to the graphic.  Best of luck to you all!

All of a sudden, it’s football season.

Last season marked the first time in NCAA history that four teams from the state of Florida had been simultaneously ranked in either of the two major polls.  On Monday, the AP released their preseason top 25, and it had four teams from the state of Florida for first time, ever.  The top vote getter from the Sunshine State was Florida State, at number three.  It’s quite a drop to the Gators at #17, but Miami and USF are right behind at 18 and 19, respectively.

School is back and football camps continue.  The season, soon begins.

The University of South Florida has concluded its stadium feasibility study.  The study proposes four different locations for a $200 million, 50,000 seat stadium on or adjacent to the university’s main campus in Tampa.  Three of the proposed locations would feature prominently on Fowler Avenue.

August is here and football is in the air.  Camps have begun and USF has been landing recruits right and left.

Fall camp has begun.  Football is coming.

It’s past the midway point of July and football talk is beginning to pick up.

Two Bulls have been named to national award watch lists.  Senior quarterback, Quinton Flowers, has been named to the Maxwell Award watch list, which seeks to recognize the best overall player in college football.  Senior cornerback, Deatrick Nichols, has been added to the Bednarik Award watch list.  The Bednarik award is given to the top defensive player in college football.

Today marks the end of the first half of the calendar year, and that means college football will be returning, soon.  Summer news is slow, but there are still things to talk about.

The signs of summer are upon us.  Daily thunderstorms, lack of college sports, and reduced blog participation.  The Dog Days come early in the collegiate sports blog world.  They will end soon enough, though, because before you know it, the talk of the day will turn to camps and depth charts.

It is June and there is still current athletic activity to report and discuss.  The NCAA baseball tournament begins today.

The collegiate post-season continues.
