The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets fell to the USF Bulls on Saturday, 49-38. The Bulls were led by a four touchdown performance by recently named starter at quarterback, Blake Barnett. Barnett’s impressive game was overshadowed in part by receiver Terrence Horne, who returned two kickoffs for touchdowns in the first quarter of play, later adding a third receiving touchdown.

Summer break is over and football is in the air. Let the grazing begin.

The University of South Florida announced on Tuesday that College Football Playoff Chief Operating Officer, Michael Kelly, will be the new vice president of athletics.

Looking Back

The Sun Dome holds many memories for long time Bulls’ fans and alumni. The university has started a new chapter in their sports history with the renaming of the dome to the Yuengling Center. While it is not unusual for USF to name buildings after benefactors making large financial contributions, this corporate sponsorship is the biggest of its kind for the school. This seems like a natural fit for both parties, given the close proximity of the Tampa Yuengling plant to the USF campus. Both are relatively young brands in the Florida market, looking for more recognition.

The announcement came over the weekend that former USF athletic director, Mark Harlan, has accepted the same position with the University of Utah. The move came just months after Harlan signed a three year renewal to remain at USF. He’ll have to pay a penalty of $262,000 for breaking that contract.

The 2018 NFL Draft is over and there is plenty of room for disappointment among former USF players and fans. Some in the area had touted this as potentially the biggest USF draft class in program history. The reality was quite different. The Bulls had 17 players displayed on their NFL Pro Day, but only two were drafted.

Spring football is now history, and so begins the long summer where football fans try to sound interested when talking about the “other” sports. Some of those other sports are making waves at USF.

Today is the day before the USF Spring Game, which makes this Spring Game Eve. This is the last football fix for fans until fall camps begin. The game will be played at Corbett Stadium, beginning at 2 PM on Saturday, April 14.

The madness is over and spring football is in the air. After a major sports season hibernation, the Graze returns.

It’s the second day of the American Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Championship and one quarter of the teams have fallen out. With only one mild upset in Round 1, with 9 seed SMU beating 8 seed UConn, there will be no huge upsets possible in Round 2.

The American Athletic Conference Basketball Championship tournament is underway and news is happening faster than it can be typed.  The first round is now history, with the winners advancing to the quarter finals to face the top four seeds.

The Tigers put up big leads early, but late charging Bulls fought to the last second, losing 79-77 in regulation with big performances from Memphis’ Kyvon Davenport and USF’s David Collins.
