The internet giveth and it taketh away.

Looking Back

The news week for Bulls fans began with the bad news that yet another football player had been arrested.  Then, the bad news became worse, when the judge who set his bond chastised him in an assumption of guilt and lambasted USF football head coach, Charlie Strong.  That video went viral, which made Judge Margaret Taylor a national news story of her own.  To the national media, the judge’s rant seemed a bit prejudiced, pronouncing guilt where none had yet been foundAnd, the backlash was even worse regarding her remarks about Strong, who didn’t recruit either of the players arrested nor has he even coached a game for the universityIn her manifesto of USF shame, the judge has managed to embarrass herself and spread shame to others.  In the end, she recused herself from LaDarrius Jackson’s case.  Perhaps that’s all she should have said instead.

The #23 USF baseball team missed a chance at redemption on Wednesday night.  They didn’t lose the game to FGCU, but the game had to be cancelled due to broken water pipes on the field.  The Eagles were the team who broke USF’s 19 game winning streak earlier in the season, when both teams were ranked.  Since that time, FGCU has dropped out of the rankings after a lengthy losing streak during conference play.  The game could not be rescheduled because there are only two weeks remaining in the season.

Looking Forward

Instead of getting their revenge against FGCU, the baseball team will have to settle for their final home series of the season, hosting ECU for three games.  The Pirates lead the all-time series with USF, 14-8, but the Bulls have won six of the past eight games.  First pitch is at 6:30 PM Friday and Saturday, with the final game starting at 1:00 PM on Sunday.

The USF softball team is wrapping up their season, as well.  They will head to Houston to play their final three games.  The Bulls are 31-21 and the Cougars are 26-23.  USF began the season ranked in the top 25.
