After being outclassed by the UConn Huskies in their last outing, the #24 USF women’s basketball team has returned to their winning ways, beating the Temple Owls, 89-73.
The Bulls were in control throughout most of the game, outscoring the Owls 49-31 in the first half of the game. After going a combined 1-27 in their last outing, Kitija Laksa and Maria Jespersen went off, scoring 29 and 20 points, respectively. Laura Ferreira scored a dozen and Alba Prieto knocked down ten to bring the total Bulls in double-digits to four.
For their part, Temple had three players scoring in double-digits, led by a strong performance from Tanaya Atkinson, who had 27 points in the loss. Mia Davis and Emani Mayo were the other Owls scoring more than ten points, with Davis making 15 and Mayo scoring 11.
USF shot 50% from the field, compared to just 41% for Temple. The Bulls also had a 32-26 edge in the paint and a 17-9 advantage on second-chance shots. The loss drops the Owls to 9-6 (1-2) on the season. They will visit Cincinnati on Saturday.
USF improves to 13-4 with the win. Their next game is against WarOnI4 in-state rival, UCF, on Sunday at noon. That game will be televised on ESPNU.
