There have been many moments when USF was a national story related to sports.  Some of those times were highs, like the top five ranking back in 2007, and some have been lows, like the nature of the Leavitt departure.  The hiring of Charlie Strong has head coach had the team making national news for the right reasons.  That story was arguably a lot bigger than that of his predecessor going to Oregon.  Now, the spotlight is on the program for another negative reason, the poor behavior of one who wore green and gold on the football field.

Looking Back

Hassan Childs is no longer a Bull. The week began with news that he had been shot and was being hospitalized in stable condition. Not long after, it was revealed that he was not the victim, but the aggressor in the incident. He’s been charged with three counts of aggravated assault for allegedly threatening his victim with a firearm before allegedly being shot in self-defense. USF isn’t waiting for the trial. Childs has been dismissed.

Head football coach, Charlie Strong, has spoken on the Childs’ situation. “I was just telling our players look at the ticker right now and look at the ESPN ticker and look at what the lead story is. We don’t want to be the lead story for the wrong reasons,” said Strong.

Incoming men’s basketball head coach, Brian Gregory, has found a pearl. Bruce Pearl has been hired as an assistant. Pearl played basketball at USF from 1990-93 and was previously an assistant at Auburn, Wichita State, LSU, and Georgia Tech, where he worked on Gregory’s staff, previously.

Looking Forward

For those who are wondering, CBS Sports is doing the same. They want to know what USF’s biggest football loss is. To get closer to that answer, they’ve devised a fan poll.  After you’ve made your very important vote count, please share your answer here, along with your reasoning.

Some will vote for Marlon Mack in the above mentioned poll. Replacing Mack is certainly going to be a challenge for the Bulls.

The #26 men’s tennis team will host #29 Tulane today and will visit #39 UCF on Saturday.

Despite dropping a pair of games last week, the Bulls’ baseball team has improved to a 23-3 record with wins over FAMU and Stetson this week. Their win total sets a program record for the most wins at this point in the season. They begin conference play with a three game series at Tulane on Friday.
