It is National Signing Day Eve, so you know what the next 24 hours of news will be about.  Right now, all is quiet on the recruiting front.  Either head football coach, Charlie Strong, has a lot of signing day surprises or there’s nothing to say.

Looking Back

The #19 Cincinnati Bearcats handed the USF men’s basketball team another humiliating loss, 94-53 on Sunday.  Cincinnati is 19-2 and continued a 21 game home winning streak, third longest in program history.  Sunday’s victory comes at the biggest margin for Cincinnati since the Big East became The American.  The second biggest win margin for the Bearcats came against USF, last season, when they won by 31 points.  The Bulls have not won a game since Orlando Antigua was fired, losing eight games by double digits.

Once again, while the men were losing, the women were winning.  The #23 USF Bulls women’s basketball team beat Temple, 55-51.

The USF women’s tennis team rebounded after losing to the Gators at the ITA Kickoff, beating DePaul 4-2.

USF quarterback, Quinton Flowers, and middle linebacker, Auggie Sanchez, marched in the Gasparilla Parade on Saturday.

Looking Forward

The Graze has been alluding to the possibility of National Signing Day surprises since incoming head coach, Charlie Strong, began recruiting in earnest.  There was a stark difference in the caliber of recruits that USF was talking to and the feedback from them was unusually positive.  The Tampa Bay Times’ Joey Knight adds to the speculation, naming several big time recruits who could be headed to Tampa.

Despite reports to the contrary, USF athletic director, Mark Harlan, is staying in Tampa.   News stories indicated that he was being pursued by Arizona for the same position.

A lot has been made of the hires of Charlie Strong at USF, Butch Davis at FIU, and Lane Kiffin at FAU.  In particular, the trio are generally seen to be recruiting threats to the schools that dominate the state’s top recruits, Florida, FSU, and Miami.  The Tampa Bay Times’, Joey Knight, reports that Rivals’ national recruiting director, Mike Farrell, says the threat is not real.

The only five star recruit on USF’s board is defensive tackle, Marvin Wilson, out of Bellaire, Texas.  Wilson built a strong relationship with USF head coach, Charlie Strong, when the latter was at UT.  When he was fired from Texas, Wilson added USF as a strong consideration.  He had been scheduled to take an official visit in Tampa on 1/20, but did not make that trip
