National Signing Day is just one week from today, and there is much uncertainty about who will sign for USF. There have been several de- commitments due to the targeting by former football head coach, Willie Taggart. The latest of these was three star athlete, Bruce Judson Jr. He was one of the first targeted by Taggart, so it is of little surprise that he will not be visiting USF. The other side of the mystery in this year’s recruiting class is what new head coach, Charlie Strong, brings to the table. Since his hire, a handful of elite recruits have expressed interest in USF, a program with zero four or five star recruits in this class. Expect the unexpected on National Signing Day.

Looking Back

The Orlando Sentinel explains the commitment, de-commitment, and possible recommitment of Orlando receiving prospect, Emare Hogan. Hogan committed with Apopka receiver, Demetri Burch, and Cocoa athlete, Bruce Judson Jr. The latter two de-committed when Taggart went to Oregon. Hogan, apparently had his offer revoked and then re-offered, as a result of Judson Jr. backing out.

The fluctuations in the recruiting class have created an opening for Lakeland running back, A.J. Davis. Davis is a four star recruit, ranked 19th in the nation at his position. He’ll take his official visit with USF this weekend.

Looking Forward

The men’s basketball team have a chance to end their losing skid, hosting UConn tonight at the Sun Dome. The 8-11 Huskies are 8.5 point favorites over the 6-12 Bulls. Tipoff is at 7, with the game broadcast nationally on ESPNU.

The unceremonious departure of failed USF basketball coach, Orlando Antigua, is classified as old news. The search to replace him, which is said to have already begun, has been a quiet one. The Tampa Bay Times’ Joey Knight considers the possibility that the search is already over.

Scott Spurrier, son of former South Carolina and Florida head coach, Steve Spurrier, has joined Charlie Strong’s staff. His job at USF will be quality control, a role he held at South Carolina.
